Commenting on the Surgery Verification Checklist developed by the World Health Organization:
"These lists are great and they will improve care. Anything that encourages accountability is not only morally correct, but is cost beneficial."
Any incidence of medical negligence has an impact on the healthcare system. With that in mind, the World Health Organization introduced a checklist for surgery that specifically addresses patient safety and can reduce the number of mishaps that occur in the operating room. The checklist encourages accountability and in the long run will be beneficial to healthcare.
We at Pegalis & Erickson, LLC have devoted our entire practice to representing the seriously injured and applaud all efforts - including the checklist - that are successful in helping to reduce surgical complications, errors and deaths.
